HE pushes her so she can be the best she can be. Chada's future is affected by Mr. Selalame because he is her encouragement to never give up and keep going.

  3. "Mama, Esther has no one. If I cut her off, what kind of person would I be?" Mama had no answer. She took a deep breath and gave me a hug so long and hard I thought she would never let go. You see, she knew I was right. I can't abandon Esther. She's alone now. Her little brothers and sisters are gone. She stands up for her friend. Chanda stands up for her beliefs. She isn't going to care about what other people say. She only cares about what she thinks about herself.

  6. "Chanda's future is determined by her current surroundings" can be proven by events that occured in the book.Chanda is the only one in her family able to go to school and she often doesn't have the time to anymore with all her time spent on her siblings, caring for them. Also, they are unable to have a phone or a car or medical items. This shows that they depend on others like Mrs. Tafa to care to them when they can't afford it. Chanda lives in hard times in Africa where many live in poverty and are unable to do many things due to their families dying before their eyes. With grief all around the people of Africa, it makes it hard to focus on anything or to become successful.

  7. Chanda was inspired by her teacher. Her teacher Mr. Selalame said "Chanda one of my favorite students" and he also said "You must be very proud of her". He is very good to her and he wants her to chase her dreams and be the best person you can. Also she is growing up with not a lot of money and not having a lot of things. Its going to be hard for her when she gets older
